Plot Summary: Jaime Escalante is a math teacher in an inner-city school in East Los Angeles, California. With unconventional teaching methods, he takes 18 students and gives them a chance to prove their abilities. Despite naysayers, they take an Advanced Placement calculus exam. With all 18 scoring off the charts, testing officials disqualify their scores and call them cheaters. The only way to prove themselves is to retake an even more difficult exam.

Description of the Scene: Mr. Escalante breaks the news to his students that they will only have one day to review for the retake exam. As he tries to offer encouragement, he pauses and moves into an inspiring and motivational moment with his students.
